November 14

Every November 14, schools across America celebrate “Ruby Bridges National Walk to School Day,” commemorating Ruby’s historic steps to integrate a previously all-white school during the Civil Rights movement in New Orleans on November 14, 1960.

This year, Malden will participate in this important event for the first time as part of the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School program. Salemwood, Linden, Beebe, and Forestdale will walk to school on this day, and in a new partnership with Malden Reads, elementary-grade students will also enjoy special programming throughout the week leading up to November 14th to learn about Ruby Bridges, the history of segregation, and her legacy in our country.

Please visit The Ruby Bridges Foundation to learn more about how the nation comes together on this annual event.
